The Simple Room is in need of volunteers for its Crossroads mentoring program. We will pair these Big Brothers and Big Sisters with local youth. The objective of this program is provide students with a person who will listen, love, and learn alongside them.
The Simple Room Rebels 5th and 6th Grade Basketball team is in the heart of their 2011-2012 season.
On Sunday, January 15, 2012 they moved to 5-5 record for the season and claimed their 4th win in a row!
The Rebels begin the tournament portion of their season as they head to Roxana this upcoming weekend, January 20-22. It is officially tournament time as we head to Roxana. Immediately following the Roxana tournament, the boy's will play in the St. Mary's tournament on Monday, January 23rd.
The Rebels continued their winning streak with a third win on Tuesday, January 10th, in a nail biter 27-26 victory against a rival Greenville 5th/6th grade boys team. The Rebels hosted the game at First Christian Church in Greenville.
William Carson sunk the first basket of the game. The Rebels kept a strong lead for most of the first half. Clayton Harris hit an impressive three point shot to bring the score to 7-4. After a series of fast breaks for both teams, the Rebels ended the first half leading 11-8.
Don't miss this exciting night of fun for Bond County junior high and high school students. We'll have 3-on-3 basketball, tournaments, dodgeball, movies and food. There will also be a time of praise and worship and we'll hear from guest speaker Ivan Filby.
It only costs $15 to attend and you can get sign-up forms at The Simple Room, school, or church. Just stop by your school office or talk to your youth paster. Registration is due by April 13th.

Watch as Shaquan discusses her friendship with her Crossroads' mentor, Stephanie. When Stephanie moved away after graduating from Greenville College, they continued to speak to each other regularly. Their conversations gradually grew more personal and they began sharing with each other about their faith in God.
When we pair a Simple Room youth with a college student mentor through our Crossroads mentoring program, it is with the hope that a lasting friendship will develop as a result. While this is not always the case, many times we have had the privilege of witnessing a mentoring relationship flourish over the course of several years. These special friendships are powerful and transformative for both the mentor and the mentee.
On Wednesday, December 1st The Simple Room performed during the half-time of the Greenville College mens varsity basketball game versus Blackburn College. The crew danced to a compilation of several hip hop songs. The routine was choreographed by program instructor, Amy Jo Russell, and featured several individual performances and tumbling tricks. Brian Bell flipped over four teammates at the close of the routine. The performance was met with a standing ovation from the audience packed into the home team stands.
At The Simple Room, we strive to offer youth resources, opportunities, and support to develop. For over a year, we've discussed the possibility of creating a basketball team for our group of energetic and athletic fifth and sixth grade boys. This fall we decided to make it happen and started an AAU basketball team. Since then we've had the privilege of watching our fifth and sixth grade boys sweat, fight, and develop discipline and respect during practice. Led by Coach Trent Crump, we've watched these boys become a team. We couldn't be more proud.
